View of the castle church of Wittenberg. The castle with its 88 m high Gothic tower at the west end of the town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The first mention of the castle dates from 1187. It gained fame as in 1517 the Wittenberg Augustinian monk and theology professor Martin Luther spread his 95 disputation. Today, the castle is a hostel, the host of the Riemer Museum and of local history collections
