The monastery is located in the municipality Obermarchtal Obermarchtal. Since its inception in the year 776 the monastery often changed its owners. In 1440 Marchtal was elevated to an abbey. 1701 a new building was consecrated to the church, which is one of the most famous examples of early German Baroque. Today the convent is used as a meeting house
