The mosque in the district Ehrenfeld is to serve the Turkish-Islamic Union of the Institute for Religion (DITIB) as the central mosque. In November 2009, the foundation stone for the building was set under the architect Paul Blöhm and the contractor Nuha GmbH & Co. KG. In October 2011 it was announced that the building owner DITIB had terminated its cooperation with the architectural firm of Böhm. With a, inter alia, 55 metres high minaret, the building is to be one of the largest mosques in Germany after the presumed opening in 2013
