On the market of Eisenach in Thuringia is the George Church as an important landmark of the city. The main church of the city goes back to a Gothic hall church, which received its present appearance in the Baroque style in the 17th and 18th centuries. In this church preached the reformer Martin Luther and here the church musician Johann Sebastian Bach was baptized. Another important monument in the market is the City Palace, which was a residence of the Grand Dukes of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach. Today it houses the city archives and the Thuringian Museum. At Luther Square is a distinctive half-timbered house, to see the Luther house. Here Luther is said to have lived in his school days
