On the market of Eisenach in Thuringia is the George Church as an important landmark of the city. The main church of the city goes back to a Gothic hall church, which received its present appearance in the Baroque style in the 17th and 18th centuries. Another important monument in the market is the City Palace, which was a residence of the Grand Dukes of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach. Today it houses the city archives and the Thuringian Museum. At Luther Square is a distinctive half-timbered house, to see the Luther house. Here Luther is said to have lived in his school days
