Das Mahen-Theater wurde von den Wiener Architekten Ferdinand Fellner (1848-1916) und Hermann Hellner (1849-1919) in den Jahren 1881-1882 entworfen. Es steht an der Stelle der ehemaligen Stadtmauer. Das Theater begann seine Tätigkeit am 14. November 1882, und zu seinen Vorteilen gehörte die edisonsche elektrische Beleuchtung.
