Das an der Grenze von Sachsen-Anhalt und Niedersachsen gelegene ehemalige Kali - und Steinsalz Bergwerk dient als Atommüll Endlager. Erst wurden dort die Abfälle der DDR Atomforschung gelagert. Nach der Wiedervereinigung wurde das Lager von der Bundesregierung übernommen. Daraufhin wurden dort auch Abfälle von Bundesdeutschen Atomkraftwerken / AKW untergebracht. Close to the border between Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony there is the final disposal site for nuclear substances. The disposal is located in the former salt mine. In the beginning it was used for the nuclear waste / substances of the GDR / German Democratic Republic. After the reunion of germany it was also used for the waste of German Ferderal atomic power plants.
