Das Museum, welches zuerst als Heimatmuseum fungierte, wurde um die Sammlung des Bottroper Künstlers Josef Albers erweitert. Das quadratisch konzipierte Gebäude wurde zu Josef Albers Ehren gebaut und trägt heute den Namen " Josef Albers Museum Quadrat". The square-designed building was built in honor of Josef Albers and now bears the name " Josef Albers Museum Quadrat ".
