Blick auf Harzgerode im Harz. Die Stadt wurde 994 unter an derem Namen zum ersten Mal urkundlich erwähnt, im 17. Jahrhundrt war sie Fürstenresidenz, in der Nähe befindet sich die Burgruine Anhalt und die Burg Heinrichsburg. 2009 wurden mehrere Nachbarortschaften eingemeindet. Der Ort hat ca. 8.538 Einwohner.
